Why Does Grooming Take So Long?

Most dogs are worked on for a minimum of 2-3 hours each. While the time spent on each dog is not by the same person, we are working on the dogs consistently throughout the day and in stages.

Please do not expect us to brush out, bathe, condition, blow dry, brush & comb out again, do a full body trim, style the coat, dremel the nails, give your dog a rest and break in between, and do this all within a couple of hours.

If dogs come in that have parasites like fleas, we will stop what we are doing and handle those dogs so your dog is protected from picking up fleas. Sometimes this throws things out of order and delays us a bit. Delays like that cannot be helped. If the dog is not groomed regularly (every 4-6 weeks), is an intact male, has behavioral issues, or is matted, please know it takes considerably more time to work with these pets. We will do what is best for all the pets staying with us before we will do what is most convenient time-wise. We ask for your understanding.

(Please also keep in mind the staff needs to care for themselves as well, at lunch, rest after a challenging or large pet, use the restroom etc. We get to care for ourselves, so we are able to take the best care of your pets we can.)

Why aren’t there discounts for extremely small dogs?

The simplest answer to this question is: extremely small dogs require more time. It’s like the difference between typing on a regular size keyboard, & typing on the keyboard on a small cell phone. Extremely small dogs require more attention due to their small size & fragility. a very small dog will often take as long, if not longer to be groomed than their larger counterparts. We enjoy grooming dogs of all sizes and breeds (or mixed breeds). Price is determined by time spent grooming a particular dog & the extremely small dogs can be like grooming a hamster, or putting together a ship in a bottle, which while it can be done, does require more time, focus & attention to detail to be done properly. =)

Why can’t the groomer give an exact price quote?

We get asked this question a lot when answering calls requesting a quote for a specific breed of dog. The best we can do is, to give a starting price based on weight. We do verify the weight of the dog with your vet, and that weight is what we go by for your dog's price. Prices vary depending on condition of the dog, behavior, and the difficulty of the haircut. We cannot, without working on your dog give you an exact price, and prices quoted are for dogs in healthy, maintained condition, dogs excessively matted or who bite will be extra. The reason we price our services by weight instead of by breed is because there can be significant size variations within the same breed of dog.
